3 favorite War on Drugs tunes

12:01
Eno Sarris: That one, that one and that one. I just heard them for the first time this morning. In related news, I’m an old man with a toddler son. What’s funny about this is that it sounds like some sort of Fleetwood Mac plus Bruce Springsteen, and despite the fact that I don’t like either of those bands, I like this one!

FanGraphs Chat – 3/5/14

11:50
Dave Cameron: It’s Wednesday, so let’s chat. The queue is now open, so fire away.

12:01
Comment From _David_
Would you support an auction system for the draft? I know you would like it abolished, but might this way remove the surcharge some teams might have to pay prospects who would prefer to sign elsewhere?

12:03
Dave Cameron: I would support an auction format for the draft, and in fact, that was part of my proposal to abolish it. You’d still want to have to a sliding scale of allocations — some prefer it based on prior season W/L record, I prefer it based on market size — but an auction system would democratize things a bit more.

Comment From doffbhoya123
can the cubs be contenders this year?

12:03
Dave Cameron: Probably not, no.

12:03
Comment From _David_
Is Fangraphs formulating a plan for a doomsday scenario where all the mlbam data is private? Would it involve FG paying for some level of access?

Dave Cameron has been kidnapped by Ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to save the Dave Cameron?

9:02
Jeff Zimmerman: The only hope would be Dave getting into a staring contest with them.

11:48
Dave Cameron: It’s Wednesday, so let’s talk baseball. The queue is now open.

12:01
Comment From David Ortiz
What do you project for me in 2014? Am I still mashing?

12:01
Dave Cameron: No reason to expect a huge decline. I’d imagine you have a few more good years left.

12:01
Comment From Matt
Whats the expectation for games played from my Miami Man Crush Stanton this year? Same as the past?

12:02
Dave Cameron: Probably 140-150. For guys on non-contenders, there’s also a higher likelihood that they get shut down in September.

12:02
Comment From Bret
Who do you think will be the Jays Opening Day second baseman?

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 2/25/14

5:55
Paul Swydan: HI EVERYBODY!

At 9 pm ET, we’ll rap about some baseball things. And whatever else is on your mind. I finally saw Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 this past weekend, so we can talk about that. Or The Americans, which comes back tomorrow – woo hoo! Or we can just stick to baseball. Whatever floats your schooner.

See you soon!

9:01
Paul Swydan: Hey guys, let’s do this.

9:01
Comment From Garth Vader
For fantasy draft purposes: Am I better off caring about wOBA more than wRC+ for projections? My thought being that I don’t care what league or park context the guy is putting up the numbers, just that he IS putting up the numbers.

9:03
Paul Swydan: It’s a fair point, but you also may be misled by wOBA. A lot of wOBA is your on-base percentage, so you still might not end up doing all that well. For instance, Mark Trumbo only had a .322 wOBA last year. Based on that, you’d never draft him. But if he hits 34 bombs and drives in 100 again, then he’s a stud. So, there isn’t one metric that you can use by itself, IMO.

9:03
Comment From City Beer Store
Given current state, if you had the choice which side of this trade would you take? Goldy+Kh.Davis or Kemp+M.Adams?

9:04
Paul Swydan: Not even a question, the Goldy side. Davis and Goldy are both going to play, and the other two might not play much, if at all.

Dan Szymborski FanGraphs Chat – 2/24/14

12:01
Dan Szymborski: Presenting, for your bemusement, the man that’s taller than Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, in better physical shape than Bartolo Colon, less authoritarian than Nicolas Maduro, and more intellectually honest than Murray Chass: ….oh wait…it’s just Dan Szymborski

12:01
Comment From Papa Grande
Trout 6/150… how do you feel?

12:01
Comment From Papa Grande
Seems like that much money for only two extra years really isnt that awesome

12:02
Dan Szymborski: Those two extra years would be pretty damn expensive on the open market. Trout’s salary would dwarf top salaries today – either he or 2000 A-Rod is the most valuable player to ever be open to bids

12:02
Comment From Concerned Fantasy GM
Hey Dan. Thanks for giving us something to look forward to on Mondays! I’m in an 11 team AL-only keeper league, and worried going into my auction. I do not have a catcher, and it looks like Mauer, Santana, Perez, Wieters, Castro, Gomes, Avila and Zunino are all being kept. Do I break the bank on McCann? Do I target the tandem of Norris and Jaso in Oakland, and hope that together they become a solid option? Any insight you can provide is much appreciated.

12:03
Dan Szymborski: If it doesn’t cripple you, McCann’s a far better fantasy option. It’s closer in real life, bu
