: I’m excited too.
|
| 12:00 |
Are you ready for the 90 win Mets?! |
| 11:48 |
: It’s Wednesday, so let’s talk baseball. The queue is now open.
|
| 12:01 |
What do you project for me in 2014? Am I still mashing? |
| 12:01 |
: No reason to expect a huge decline. I’d imagine you have a few more good years left.
|
| 12:01 |
Whats the expectation for games played from my Miami Man Crush Stanton this year? Same as the past? |
| 12:02 |
: Probably 140-150. For guys on non-contenders, there’s also a higher likelihood that they get shut down in September.
|
| 12:02 |
Who do you think will be the Jays Opening Day second baseman? |
| 5:55 |
: HI EVERYBODY!
At 9 pm ET, we’ll rap about some baseball things. And whatever else is on your mind. I finally saw Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 this past weekend, so we can talk about that. Or The Americans, which comes back tomorrow – woo hoo! Or we can just stick to baseball. Whatever floats your schooner. See you soon! |
| 9:01 |
: Hey guys, let’s do this.
|
| 9:01 |
For fantasy draft purposes: Am I better off caring about wOBA more than wRC+ for projections? My thought being that I don’t care what league or park context the guy is putting up the numbers, just that he IS putting up the numbers. |
| 9:03 |
: It’s a fair point, but you also may be misled by wOBA. A lot of wOBA is your on-base percentage, so you still might not end up doing all that well. For instance, Mark Trumbo only had a .322 wOBA last year. Based on that, you’d never draft him. But if he hits 34 bombs and drives in 100 again, then he’s a stud. So, there isn’t one metric that you can use by itself, IMO.

| 9:03 |
Given current state, if you had the choice which side of this trade would you take? Goldy+Kh.Davis or Kemp+M.Adams? |
| 9:04 |
: Not even a question, the Goldy side. Davis and Goldy are both going to play, and the other two might not play much, if at all.
|
| 9:00 |
: Hey, I think I’m on time again?
|
| 9:00 |
: Tremendous!
|
| 9:01 |
: Baseball chat!
|
| 9:02 |
: And a CoverItLive hiccup! Anyway, off we go
|
| 9:03 |
ah.. nothing is more frightening than an on time host of a Fangraphs chat… |
| 9:03 |
: I like when Dave is late by like 18 minutes. Yeah, “finishing an article,” whatever, amigo
|
| 12:01 |
: Presenting, for your bemusement, the man that’s taller than Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, in better physical shape than Bartolo Colon, less authoritarian than Nicolas Maduro, and more intellectually honest than Murray Chass: ….oh wait…it’s just Dan Szymborski
|
| 12:01 |
Trout 6/150… how do you feel? |
| 12:01 |
Seems like that much money for only two extra years really isnt that awesome |
| 12:02 |
: Those two extra years would be pretty damn expensive on the open market. Trout’s salary would dwarf top salaries today – either he or 2000 A-Rod is the most valuable player to ever be open to bids

Hey Dan. Thanks for giving us something to look forward to on Mondays! I’m in an 11 team AL-only keeper league, and worried going into my auction. I do not have a catcher, and it looks like Mauer, Santana, Perez, Wieters, Castro, Gomes, Avila and Zunino are all being kept. Do I break the bank on McCann? Do I target the tandem of Norris and Jaso in Oakland, and hope that together they become a solid option? Any insight you can provide is much appreciated. |
| 12:03 |
: If it doesn’t cripple you, McCann’s a far better fantasy option. It’s closer in real life, bu
|
| 11:56 |
: Happy Friday, everyone. Only an hour today, so let’s make it a great one!

Andrelton the best of the Braves extensions?

Where is Nick Franklin on opening day?

O’s going to regret the Jiminez contract? AL East is a division of patient hitters who can devour his wildness

Kershaw-Medlen-Salazar-Ross-Kluber ok rotation in 12 team mixed?

| 12:03 |
Do you think Homer Bailey can be a top 15 pitcher by the end of the year?
|
||||||
| 11:47 |
: 13 minutes until weird.

| 11:49 |
:

: clip of the day brought to you by my wife, who gave her consent for me to go to Jamaica for a long weekend coming up.

LETSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GETTTTTTTTTT WEIRD! |
| 12:00 |
Tell me what to think about the Simmons deal! |
| 12:00 |
: Not as awesome as Rizzo or Goldschmidt deals, but pretty good. Just saw Collette tweet that Reyes got 54 mill over the same time period, and players are more expensive now.
|
| 11:44 |
: The queue is now open, so get your questions in.
|
| 12:00 |
: Probably going to start 5-10 minutes late today, but we’ll run long in order to make it up to you.
|
| 12:14 |
: Sorry guys, just a few more minutes.
|
| 12:15 |
: Okay, just pushed out my list of the best moves of the off-season, so let’s get this thing started. And you can read that here, if you’re interested. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-best-transactions-of-the-2014-off-season/

Is there a way to assign a dollar value to a players fielding versatility? For example how much more valuable is Bonifacio over an identical hitting mono-positional player? |
| 12:17 |
: I think the value shows up in the fact that these guys have MLB jobs at all. If a guy like Bonifacio only played one position and hit like he did last year, he’d probably be a Triple-A lifer.
|
| 5:58 |
: Hi everybody! I am flying solo tonight because Jeff has his Ottoneu draft, but join me at 9 pm ET and we’ll talk snow and baseball and snow and basesnow and snowballs and snowsnowsnow. And baseball!
See you soon! |
| 9:01 |
: One second.
|
| 9:03 |
: OK, let’s do this
|
| 9:03 |
For deep AL leagues, who are some under the radar relievers to target? |
| 9:03 |
: Cody Allen for sure. Danny Farquhar for another. Junichi Tazawa I like.
|
| 9:04 |
: Probably others. Someone on the Angels for sure.
|
| 9:00 |
: Look at that, everybody! On time!
|
| 9:00 |
: I’m too pleased with myself. I better take a few minutes.
|
| 9:00 |
Votto is averaging 65 RBI over the last two years, so he’s clearly bad. Bazinga. |
| 9:00 |
: Fun fact:
|
| 9:01 |
: Last year, he was one of the least-clutch players in baseball!
|
| 9:01 |
: That is, by the win expectancy Clutch score.
