Jeff Zimmerman: Hi everyone, Paul is going to be a bit late and I will start this chat

Comment From Larry Bernandez
Do you think Scherzer is going to be disappointed and not get the offer he wanted? It seems like not too many teams are that interested in paying his large price.

Jeff Zimmerman: Just a few teams would be able to afford him to begin with. I think Lester’s deal set the low bar. I expect Scherzer to get a bit more.

Comment From Ceej
Which version of the 2014 Salazar are we more likely to see in 2015?

Jeff Zimmerman: I really don’t know, hopefully the second half version when he threw strikes. I watched one of his starts for this week’s Quick Looks and his defense really let him down a few times.

Comment From season tickets
whats the next big move the Os make?

Jeff Sullivan: I suppose it’s time to baseball chat

Jeff Sullivan: Yes, it is indeed time to do that

Comment From Xolo
How many wins better do Kemp AND Upton make the Padres?

Jeff Sullivan: Well, not enough, would be one of my answers

Jeff Sullivan: What do the Padres give up to get Upton?

Jeff Sullivan: Working a little in their favor, perhaps, is that neither the Diamondbacks nor Rockies are particularly good, and the Giants might be kind of stuck. But the Padres need more help than two above-average outfielders can give them

Dan Szymborski: Yup, it’s that time again.

Dan Szymborski: Dan Szymborski FanGraphs chat! Dan Szymborski FanGraphs chat! Where ya at? Where ya at? There ya go! There ya go!

Dan Szymborski: No presidents today, so we’ll get right back into baseball business.

Dan Szymborski: With the usual off-topic questions scattered becuase I like nonsense

Comment From Whats on Second?
Who has the better 2015–Kipnis or Wong?

Dan Szymborski: I think it’ll be fairly close in 2015.

Kiley McDaniel: Why start using snappy intros now?

Comment From mtsw
Know anything about Jason Garcia? What do the Orioles see in him that they’re willing to take him in Rule 5 draft despite him never pitching above high-A?

Kiley McDaniel: As far as I know, I was the first to report Garcia hitting 100 mph in instructs. His velo popped after TJ and he’s flashed an above average breaking ball, but he doesn’t have lots of experience and hasn’t been above Low-A. Good flyer to see if he can survive in the deep end.

YORE LATE KILEY

Kiley McDaniel: I see my fans are lucid as usual

What kind of season do you see for Rodon this year?

Eno Sarris: I’ll be here in fifteen minutes or “ten trades”.

Eno! Explain what is going on at these winter meetings.

Eno Sarris: Madness.

Eno Sarris: Also: second wild card means everyone wants to compete now.

Neil Weinberg: Hey all. Going to assume that most questions will focus on wheeling and dealings out of San Diego, but you’re also welcome to fire off any and all questions about stats/metrics/data/FG. We’ll start at 3pm and I’m @NeilWeinberg44 on Twitter if you’re looking for me otherwise.

Neil Weinberg: Alright, let’s do the thing where we chat.

Comment From Guest
What would Trumbo cost the Mariners?

Neil Weinberg: Not a ton. Prospect at the back end of a team’s top 10 or less. He’s not a great player and he’s getting pricey.

Comment From Zach
Is Dan Duquette ever going to do anything? I know he’s deliberate, but sheesh. Sign Melky and Morse and be done with it!

Neil Weinberg: I would expect them to make a Morse type deal soon, maybe trade for Byrd. I know it’s really unlikely, but I think they stand to gain a lot from a Scherzer deal. No one has come off the board that the O’s should have signed, really, so they’re still in good shape

Dave Cameron: It’s a busy Wednesday, so let’s talk Chicago pitching upgrades, or Boston non-pitching upgrades, or other things.

Dave Cameron: Also, I think I got rid of the big terrible cover photo, so feedback on how the CIL format is working this week is appreciated.

Comment From Houzer
Okay really … how much better would the Tigers be by swapping Porcello with Shields? Can you quantify in wins?

Dave Cameron: Porcello and Shields are both probably ~3 WAR starters next year, so that would essentially be a push, and the upgrade would come from whatever they got for Porcello. If it was Porcello for Cespedes, you’re probably looking at a roughly two win upgrade in the outfield. Given the cost of signing Shields, not sure that’s worth it.

Comment From Houzer
What could the Tigers fetch for a RF’er for Price?

Dave Cameron: Probably not as much as you might think. Not a lot of teams out there looking to take on $20 million in salary, and you saw what one year of Samardzija just brought back.

Paul Swydan: Hi everybody! WINTER MEETINGS!!!!

Jeff and I will be here at 9 pm ET to talk all the sexy rumors that you want to talk. Well, Jeff might be a little late, but we’ll allow it because he’s special.

In any case, fill up the queue and I’ll pop off a few polls, and we’ll rendezvous here soon! Ciao!

Paul Swydan: OK, enough trying to catch up on rumors, let’s get to this. Jeff will be along after he makes a bloody mary.

Comment From Park Chan-hos Beard
Should the rockies try to trade for McCann? is that feasible? would the yankees give him up, considering his less than stellar year last year?

Paul Swydan: It’s definitely feasible from the standpoint of “do the Rockies have enough talent to land McCann.” From a “should they try,” ….. I can see where you’re going, but I think there’s probably a better solution for the Rockies. They can’t afford to pay a lot in trade for McCann and then have him be bad again. Or rather, not as good as expected.

Jeff Zimmerman: I think they could, but wouldn’t be able to make a reasonable trade to get the Yankees to move. McCann is in NY for a while longer IMO.

Comment From Ethan
Will we see the flood gates open on trades and signings this year like we did last year in the week before the winter meetings?

Jeff Sullivan: Who among us is ready to baseball chat?

Jeff Sullivan: I feel like I’m probably ready but I don’t know

Comment From Jaack
The picture thing tells me this will be a chat about football. WIll this be a chat about football?

Jeff Sullivan: It sucks

Comment From adam
Does Lindor start in 2015 and what is a realistic slash line?

Jeff Sullivan: He does start but I don’t believe that he starts in the majors

Dan Szymborski: Boom.

Comment From S
How much better would a Tulo return be than Donaldson?

Dan Szymborski: Should be better. Even with the contract, Tulo is very valuable. Plus, I expect that the Rockies wouldn’t move him unless they were blown away, so if he *gets* a return, it woudl be a lot

Dan Szymborski: (Uploading presidents)
